Crackling knees?!

Question:

Crackling knees?

My knees make crackling noises when I get up from a kneeling or sitting position on the floor. Sometimes it feels weird, but doesn't hurt. My dad also has this, but it's much louder, singular, and will pop if he is just getting out of a chair.

What is it? air bubbles? loose bits of cartilage? Can anything be done about it, or am I cursed to live the rest of my days with rice crispy knees?

Answers:

I have had the same thing for years. Dr. said its the cartilage grinding in the knee joint. Sometimes it can break off and cause pain. My knees have severe arthritis and someday soon I will need knee replacements because now it is so bad there is hardly any cartilage left. You should go see a Dr., there may be a medication or treatment that may help you before yours get as severe as mine have.
