How do you treat callouses?!
Question:
How do you treat callouses?
I play tennis a lot, and everytime after I play, i have callouses in the bottom of my middle finger. I want to get rid of it, or smoothing it out, per se, by lotioning it every after game, but it does'nt seem to go away. Any idea on how to treat it? and in addition, what exactly does causes this to happen?
Answers:
Do you mean a callous or a blister?
Callouses are formed by the body at points of high contact/friction as a means of protecting the area from damage. Sort of like putting down a carpet to protect hardwood floors in a high-traffic area.
If you wish to reduce the formation of your callouses, I'd recommend wearing gloves. There are many specialized tennis gloves available. It can be used in addition to or instead of commercial pads sold at drugs stores meant to prevent from callous formation.
This would also help with blisters.
To reduce the appearance of your callous, you can use a pumice stone to wear it away and moisturizing afterwards. I'd recommend Shea Butter based products for this type of application.
Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
