Should I go to the ER for back pain?!

Question:

Should I go to the ER for back pain?

I am having a lot of back problems. I have been to a cyropractor and physical therapist in the past year. They told me my hips are out of line and my tail (butt) bone is not lined up right. And my right hip is stuck and not moving. I have a new baby so i havnt been able to go to the docotors right now but my back pain is realy bad. It is hard to breathe and i feel the pain between my sholder blades and my lower back. When I go to stand it shoots down my left leg. Its saterday so my doc isnt even in, should I go to the ER? Or will they laugh at me for comming in for back pain? Most doctors look at me funny when i say my back hurts because im only 22, but once they look at it they see its all twisted.

Answers:

I have back problems too, and I finally went to an orthopaedic doctor.

You can probably get x-rays and perhaps a short term RX of pain pills at the ER. You'll spend a long time there since your problem isn't critical care stuff.

Keep working with your chiropractor. If there's a water aerobics class in your area, it's the least stressful way to try to loosen your back up.

Keep a heating pad handy too. You can switch between that and ice packs for temporary non-prescription relief.

Good luck. Back pain's a real booger to deal with, and with a baby too! Poor dear!!!

Look for an orthopaedic doctor on Monday. They can sometimes do surgery to correct problems.
