Groin Pain?!

Question:

Groin Pain?

In the past month, I've been feeling pain in my groin (left side, right where my pelvis meets the leg) and I feel like its not going away. I feel it the worst in the morning when I wake up, and usually after I work (I'm a bartender). It is at its absolute worst the morning after sexual activity. The funny thing is, I play soccer competitively, and I usually feel little or no pain the morning after in that area. Could it be a hernia, or a bone bruise? Perhaps something I don't know about? I am ready to go to the doctor, but I'm curious to see if anyone had any similar symptoms or might know what it could be.

Answers:

Okay, there are a few possible things. First, if it is truly pain localized around the hip joint, you could have a mild strain or pull of the "band" of fibrous muscle and tendon that run across that area. This could explain why the pain happens after sexual activity due to the pelvic thrusting. If this pain feels like a muscle strain, I would focus on trying to maintain best possible standing posture while at work. Being a bartender, you may be in pain from standing constantly. Arthritis may be an issue, but I would imagine you are pretty young, so unless you are/were an avid athlete, this is probably not the case.

If the pain you are feeling feels like internal burning, you could have a hernia (your would be able to feel a slight lump), but more likely it is something called epedidymitis. It is the infection of the vas deferens - the tube that carrys the semen from the testicles to the penis. This is painful and can cause pain that radiates through the whole area. If you feel this burning internal pain (especially after sex) I would recommend seeing the doctor.

Hope this helps and hope you feel better.
