More prone to muscle strains because of the muscle imbalance?

Answers:

Chastity, the answer is that most people have mild scoliotic curves and they are not bothered by back problems. The one factor that has a definite effect on back problems is posture. With a scoliosis your posture is not going to be perfect but if you work at it things will improve. I would also recommend that you take up one of the following exercise programs as a way of improving posture and overall muscle conditioning. Yoga, Pilate's, and weight training would all benefit you. As for the back pain please try these movements to see if they stop your problem. Sit in a straight chair and raise your left arm as high above your head as possible. Note the height achieved and then rest the arm. Now do the same with the right arm. You are going to find that one arm went up higher than the other. Start with the arm that went up the highest. Raise that arm up as high and hard as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat that cycle twice more with that arm and then do the same cycle of 3 using the opposite arm. Now turn your head to the left as far as it can go noting the endpoint of rotation then do the same to the right. Start in the direction that rotated the furthest. Turn your head in that direction as far and hard as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat that cycle twice more in that direction and then do the same 3 movements in the opposite direction. Lastly, twist the body to the left as far as you can noting the endpoint and then do the same to the right. Start in the direction that rotated the furthest. Twist in that direction as hard and far as you can for 30 seconds and then rest for 15 seconds. Repeat this twice more in that direction and then do the same 3 movements in the opposite direction. Now get up and move around. There should be less pain and more mobility present. Do these movements at least twice a day.
