I think he's trying to scare you a little. It's most likely not bone cancer. You might have just moved something funny while running. Use some ice first to get the swelling down then use warm things to take some pain away and help the muscles relax. If those don't help and it doesn't go away in a few days then go see a doctor.

Possibly arthritis, possibly dysplasia, possibly bone cancer. Seriously, see your Dr and he will order an x-ray to rule out pathology.
