Answers:

The picture you showed was of a ganglion cyst. These will occur if you do repetitive motion with your hand. Like texting a lot, a job that requires you to do the same activity over and over with the same hand, playing video games, etc. In the old days they called these 'Bible Bumps' because they would take a heavy book, like a Bible, and hit the bump which would cause it to go away. Don't do that because it hurts. A lot. Sometimes they will try to remove the fluid with a needle. It will hurt a little. Generally though the cyst just comes back because the sac that the fluid is in remains in the wrist area. This is a link that will tell you a little more about ganglions. http://orthopedics.about.com/cs/handwris…
Sometimes a doctor will just splint the area and it will go away on it's own. If you have surgery they will 'knock you out'. Sometimes these cysts are not painful and then sometimes they will ache like crazy and make your entire arm hurt especially your hand. When you go to the doctor he will probably do an x-ray to see how big the cyst is and where it is located on your wrist. Then he will decide the best course of treatment. Good luck. I currently have two on my wrists but fortunately they are not bothering me right now.

I'm an RN.
