How can I stop burning my hands?!

Question: How can I stop burning my hands?
Since I was about 15, I've loved putting my hands in hot running water. I think I started one winter, and it just felt really good. A few years ago I would do it until I got a blister, then back off for a few days. I do it every morning, but haven't gotten a blister in a long time. I am very happy, have a great life, etc. I'm not trying to hurt myself, and I don't want to hurt myself. If it makes any sense, I get a head rush from it that I crave. If I don't do it in the morning, my hands are itchy, and I'm agitated until I do it. I know I have done the skin on my hands permanent damage (they look very old), and I'm now worried about the inside of my hands, because sometimes they get sore and weak until I back off for a few days. I've stopped before, but even after two weeks, the desire to do it doesn't fade at all. It's just as hard not to do it as that very first day. What is wrong with me?

Answers:

I used to do this. It was OCD. Talk to your doctor who can refer you to a therpist. My hands are a lot better now then what they were... it's been a few years now, but they are still sensitive!! xx

Although no expert, it sounds like you have at some time been always told to wash your hands to keep them clean, and the hotter the water the cleaner they will be.

Try putting your hands in the wash basin full of cold water for about a minute. Then just wash in normal warm water.

The warm water will feel quite hot, but should do you no harm, then dry thoroughly.

Hope this helps, but just my idea to try and help.

i think you have some kind of obssesive copulsive disorder.. thats not normal, you should definently go see a dermatologist..and he may perscribe some kind of ocd meds.
hope i helped:)

you should go to doctors immediately.

You need to see a psychiatrist.
