What should I be watching for after baby was stung 8 times by wasps or hornet?!

Question:

What should I be watching for after baby was stung 8 times by wasps or hornet?

We found 8 stings, but no stingers. He seems to be doing fine, and the swelling and redness went down almost immediately. From what I've found, multiple sting victims don't get the worst of their symptoms for a while. He is a year and a half and 24 lbs.

We gave him children's benadryl on the advice of the pharmacist last night, and we have a Doctor appointment this afternoon.

Answers:

Wasps and hornets do not necessarily lose their stingers when they sting like bees do (which is why the same wasp can sting you more than once). Since there was no severe allergic reaction, there probably will be no long term effects. If any more swelling or redness occurs, apply some antihistamine cream (benadryl). Call your pediatritian and realize that even with the best supervision, children can still get stung, it is not bad parenting.
