I have tendonitis of the knee... any suggestions?!

Question:

I have tendonitis of the knee... any suggestions?

should i ice it and wrap it? keep it elevated?

Answers:

Ice is a much better option. With a tendonitis you will have some swelling and inflammation...heat only adds to the fire so to speak. if you want to ice your whole knee i suggest making a ice bag sandwich around your whole knee. wrap the ice bags in a towel or two if it's just too cold. leave on for 12-15 min. and if the tendonitis is just above or below the front of your knee a great idea is getting a dixie (paper) cup and freezing water in it. once frozen, tear off a little of the cup from around the top, rub the ice sticking out of the cup in your hand to smooth the top then rub the ice all over the tendon that hurts for about 8-12 min. repeat every hour or so. ibuprophen isn't bad idea either..it cuts the pain and inflammation. expect to feel a cold cycle with this treatment you should feel a coldness, achyness, burning, numbness and that cycle will last about 5 min after that your set for the remaining minutes of your treatment. good luck and if you have anything happen that just doesn't feel right go back to your doc.
