Will an x-ray be damaged by heat in a car?!
Question:
Will an x-ray be damaged by heat in a car?
I am going on a trip to this weekend and need to take some important x-rays I had of my jaw with me. The x-rays are not needed till Tuesday, is it okay if I stick them in the trunk untill I need them or will heat damage them?

Answers:
It really depends where you are going for your trip. If the HIGH temperature for the day there is BELOW 70 degrees, then you will probably be OK for that short period of time to store them in the trunk. But heat and sunlight can and will do serious damage to the diagnostic quality of your x-rays. Remember that your car will usually heat up many degrees hotter than the temperature is outside.
When I was in x-ray school, I accidentally left some films in the trunk of my car that I was supposed to bring to class. When I next took them in the following week for my Film Critique Class, you could actually see the words and lines that had been on the ENVELOPE that I was storing them in right on the film.
So I would say don't take the chance. Store them inside a house, apartment, hotel room, etc.
