Is it possible to have reactions to Caffeine?!

Question:

Is it possible to have reactions to Caffeine?

For a long time, I have known that caffeine and I do not mix well. I have a 'high' from it, then come crashing down with moody-ness, or migraines.

Last night, I took a No-doz. It didn't kick in until hours later, but I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I fell asleep around 2:30, which isn't too bad for me. I woke up this morning, and was ridiculously stressed. Apart from the fact that I had a fall out with my best friend yesterday, I felt okay. But then I snapped. I screamed and screamed and screamed at my brother. I started having a panic attack when I couldn't find a magazine.

Are there any pshycological side-effects to caffiene?

Answers:

Yes. Caffeine is actually a drug!

I know it sounds weird because it is so commonly accepted in America, but for a long time it was actually outlawed.
The drug acts as a stimulant to your central nervous system (brain, neck, and backbone) But once it wears off, it is much like a hangover but less severe. All your energy can be gone.

Commonly it CAN be used to educe physical fatigue and restore mental alertness when unusual weakness or drowsiness occurs. (when you are tired in fancy words)

Caffeine is completely absorbed by the stomach and small intestine within 45 minutes of ingestion. After ingestion it is distributed throughout all tissues of the body.

The half life of caffeine—the time required for the body to eliminate one-half of the total amount of caffeine consumed at a given time—varies widely among individuals according to such factors as age, liver function, pregnancy, some concurrent medications, and the level of enzymes in the liver needed for caffeine metabolism. In healthy adults, caffeine's half-life is approximately 3–4 hours. In women taking oral contraceptives this is increased to 5–10 hours,[26] and in pregnant women the half-life is roughly 9–11 hours.

Once it does that, it starts working into three areas of your body. (( I will skip the fancy names))
First, it speeds up the process of fat being relieved into your bloodstream.
Then, it makes your blood vessels bigger so that more liquid gets to you bladder and it makes you go pee faster.
Lastly, it relaxes the muscles around your bladder and backbone and lungs. Sometimes it is used to treat asthma.

But, an acute overdose of caffeine, usually in excess of 400 milligrams (more than 3–4 cups of brewed coffee), can result in a state of central nervous system over stimulation called caffeine intoxication. There are many symptoms, but usually people get REALLY twitchy. But some people get worse symptoms which may include restlessness, nervousness, excitement, insomnia, flushing of the face, increased urination, gastrointestinal disturbance, muscle twitching, a rambling flow of thought and speech, irritability, irregular or rapid heart beat, and psychomotor agitation.

Whew! That was a lot to say. Below are a few good references if you want to find out more...
