Answers:

At that age, mosquitos also loved my son...and the bites swelled up a lot on him too (some would be the size of a silver dollar, red and swollen)...most would shrink within a day or so.

One thing that worked for him was saltwater...I took him to the beach a few times when he had major bites on his legs and after an hour of wading, the swelling would be gone...a cool saltwater bath might help your son too. It did sting at first but once he adjusted, my son started saying how much the water helped his legs.

The doctor told me to use benadryl cream for the bites if they itched, but he hated it because of the initial stinging sensation of the cream on the bite. ...so I reverted to the old home remedy of clear nail polish for everything except his face (I've used it on my face but didn't want to take chances with him). Putting a coat of clear nail polish over the entry point of a mosquito stops the itching (and stops the involuntary scratching that can cause infections)!

...and start making a habit of using bug spray on your son whenever you go outside during mosquito season...look for something made for kids (I had some great Off wipes that were great)...put it on his hair and clothing too in addition to all exposed skin (avoiding eyes and mouth of course). I also found some wrist bands and other unique repellents I could put in the bottom of his stroller when he was younger, and I had a ton of mosquito coils/candles/etc... to use on the tables.
