Sprained ankle still swollen after a month?!

Question:

Sprained ankle still swollen after a month?

I was camping on june 9th and i slipped in a stream and sprained my ankle. I didnt get back from camping until the 11th, but i kept off it, and "RICE"d it every chance i got.
I went and got it x-rayed cause it was REALLY swollen (my ankle was huge and the lower part of my shin was pretty swollen too), but the doc said it was just severely sprained (he said it was a level 3 sprain or something, the worst you can get).
I was on crutches for maybe a week or so, then i borrowed a friends "boot" for another week. Then the following week it didnt hurt to put my weight on it and i could walk ok so i just kept it wrapped in an ace bandage.
it looks like i have 2 or 3 extra ankle joints in a row, and it's hard as bone. And my ankle doesnt stand out much at all on either side (i have pretty bony ankles).
I'm pretty worried, I love running cross country but i can't run cause it hurts. I'm gonna see my doctor again tomorrow, but idk what to expect.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!

Answers:

Stay off it. I had a similiar sprain on my left ankle and thought it was okay after a couple weeks and stopped using my cane just to make it worse. Keep off it for a month... these kinds of sprains actually take longer to heal than if you were to break a bone (that's what my doctor told me).

Keep the support and avoid running til you feel it is 100%, anything less may jeopardize your season.

Good Luck!
