Ok, so everyday when i wake up, my pointer finger on my left hand is always asle!

Question: Ok, so everyday when i wake up, my pointer finger on my left hand is always asleep. Is that bad?
Its like an everyday thing, most mornings when i wake up, my pointer finger is like numb, or asleep. I talked to my mom about it and she said that its a symptom of diabetes. Can anyone help?

Answers:

I am not a medical Dr. but one idea to explore would be nerve compression. The brachial plexus nerve goes through the thoracic outlet in-between the scalene muscles in the neck. If the muscles are tight they sometimes compress the nerve going down the arm. The nerves in the arm could be compressed in other areas of the arm and the carpel tunnel too. If you want to find a massage therapist make sure they know how to work with muscle compression of the nerve and not just fluff and buff.

You could also try massaging yourself. Massage the whole arm. Concentrating on any areas that are tight or hurt. Also massage your neck, the front and side of the neck on your left side. You can buy a cheap massage tool to help you. A basalt massage stone you can hold in your hand using a little oil or lotion would help you. You can buy a large basalt stone on ebay. For a little information on self massage go to my web page: http://www.benefits-of-massage-therapy.c…

I am in the process of writing a web page on carpel tunnel syndrome and nerve compression syndromes. Check back later or sign up to my RSS feed and you will receive updates.

sounds like you may put a lot of pressure on it while you are sleeping. my wrist gets like that when I wake up,I have never heard of a diabetic link to a finger being numb or asleep when waking up.

This is not a typical symptom of diabetes; sounds like it's just from the way you sleep.

Do you sleep on your left hand???
