HELP!!!! MRI what happens?

i injured my left knee last week and the dr. said that she didnt think that there was any tears but she immobolized it. i went to my follow up yesterday and she decided that i needed to have an MRI so i go today at 330. my question is what should i expect when i go and about how long does this usually take

Answers:

It takes about 30 minutes for the actual procedure. You will be asked to remove anything metal (zipper on jeans, shoes, etc.). You will be placed on a padded cart that slides into a tube. You will probably be given the option to wear a headset and listen to music. Accept the headset, as it can be pretty boring. You're to lie perfectly still while the MRI machine makes some pretty weird noises -- like hammering and clicking. It doesn't hurt at all. If your doctor has ordered an MRI with contrast (doubt it for torn ligaments or whatever it is she's looking for), they will inject a liquid via an IV and repeat the procedure. Except for the pinch of the IV, there's nothing to it. It's just lying there and listening to music inside a tube-like machine. Relax -- it's not bad at all. Hope your results are good!
