Sleeping Problems?!

Question:

Sleeping Problems?

I have bad sleeping problems these days. I can fall asleep alright, but I keep on waking up in the middle of the night at random times and I end up in weird positions when I do wake up, which gives me backaches and other joint pains. I used to sleep in one position, and did not move when I slept. I also wake up early in the morning even though I am extremely tired when I do. I can't fall back sleep. It's not that I stay home all day and do nothing every day. I go to work from 8 am- 4pm and study when I get home until night. I work as a volunteer on the weekends. Even though I am tired, I can't get a good night's sleep. Any suggestions on how to get a good night's sleep?

Answers:

It seems to me that your life may be too stressed, and you may not be getting the rest that you need, outside of your sleeping schedule.

Exercise, at the appropriate time, is good for our minds, including aiding sleep.

Also, check your diet - are you getting a nutritionally balanced diet? Are you eating heavily, when stressed or late in the evening? Don't overdo alcohol, as this prevents the nourishing REM sleep that we all need to get, in order to feel refreshed - typically we need 4 or 5 straight hours of this, allowing dreaming and deeper relaxation.

I've done yoga in the past, which exercises and relaxes my body and mind. It always improved my sleep - your teacher will encourage you to start gently, so that you don't strain your body, which already sounds hard done by.

Lastly, seriously consider visiting your GP doctor. She/he may be able to help/check in other ways, plus offer personalized advice to you. Best of luck!
