Baby under 1 - broken collarbone?!

Question: Baby under 1 - broken collarbone?
My baby is just under 1 year old and just broke his collarbone whilst trying to stand up. He refused to use his arm for two days and now he's crawling again and putting pressure on it. When I strap him in the car or change him he screams from the pain because he can't lift his arm above a 40 degree angle. I'm really concerned and being that I only just turned 16 I'm not too sure what to do. Whats going on? Is it bad that he's putting pressure on it?? Please help!

He should not be putting pressure on it. The bone needs time to heal fully before he uses it. The collar bone is not fully developed until the age of 20 so for someone who is that young the collar bone it not very strong and needs to be 100% healed before he should put all the pressure on it and be able to use it regulary.

He needs to be taken to the hospital immediately. A collar bone injury tends to be serious if unchecked, and that's mainly because some serious damage can be done if anything were to hit it again. My friend has a broken collar bone, technically he shouldn't be playing sports but he works out so I guess there's enough muscle around it, but that's a career ending injury. But your child should be looked at by a doctor to see the severity of his injury.

Take that baby to the ER now!
