What is up with this bruise..?!

Question: What is up with this bruise..?
Last week at taekwondo i was sparring and powerfully blocked an even more powerful kick. This hurt a bit. 6 days on I have a massive purple bruise on my arm ( about 6 inches in diameter ) with a two inch by one inch white spot in the middle. The white spot is numbish, I can feel that there is pressure over it but it i hit it or exert a lot of pressure onto it i can barley feel it at all. So... should i see a doctor and do you have any ideas as to what it is. I doubt its fractured or broken because i would have known from the pain.

Answers:

Sounds like you have swelling and bruising at the point of impact. The reason you can't feel it when you apply pressure is probably because the nerve impulses are impacted by the swelling.

Take aspirin or some other kind of anti-inflammatory (Aleve) on a regular basis for a couple of days to keep the internal swelling down. Rub the area then apply warm compresses to the area to encourage circulation - that will help the bruise dissipate in the morning and evening.

It takes time for a bruised area to heal. If you bruised the bone, it takes longer. Give your body the time to recover from this injury.

Finally, you should really see a doctor and get an x-ray to be certain there is no break if the discomfort continues for more than another week or so.

go to your GP you may have soft tissue injury bruising is not normally numb or white in the middle.
