My doctor prescribed me zolpidem (ambien) and it does make me sleep but I wake u!

Question: My doctor prescribed me zolpidem (ambien) and it does make me sleep but I wake up 5 hours later, why?
I've had trouble sleeping for a long time and I normally take Vanes in the morning around 6am for ADHD. At night I typically take .15mg of clonidine for help sleeping and if it doesn't help then I take 10mg of zolpidem but I always wake up 5 hours later. Is this normal?

Answers:

It is normal. Zolpidem helps people get to sleep more than stay asleep. There is another type of zolpidem that has a continuous release type of thing that helps you stay asleep, but regular zolpidem does not.

Zolpidem has an effective time of between 5 and 7 hours, tops. So it seems like you are right at the earliest limit. There are usually no side effects from it, but it may interact with your clonidine... Best to check with doctor about the complaints about the headache and nausea.

When I took Ambien, I could only sleep for 2 hours, then be wide awake again. If I were you, I'd take whatever helps you sleep the best!
