Oh boy, whatever answer you get from someplace like YA must be handled with a grain of salt. This is a medical situation and it requires "hands on" analysis. The only reason I am answering this question is because I have had two first hand experiences with something like this.

My sister lived across the street from me. She came over one day and asked me "What is this?" It was a lump on the side of her neck. It was there night and day and it was scaring her. I felt it and looked at it and I ended up saying "It looks like it is a swollen gland."

The swollen gland went down. My sister didn't bother with medical attention, not for about six weeks when her back gave out. When she did go she was diagnosed with lung cancer. Oat cell to be exact, the smoker's cancer. Her swollen gland was telling her early to get help and she didn't.

One other time since then, I worked with a man who had been having fainting spells and dizziness. One day his neck swelled just like my sister's, He was asking people at work what it was. I told him my story, he went and insisted he be checked for Oat Cell, they found cancer and he is alive today.
My sister? She was given nine months to live and. almost to the day, lived for nine months.

Don't accept any placating answers on here. Regardless of what it is go get it checked and insist on having a more thorough analysis than simply a visual or a touch of a hand. JUST GO GET IT DONE!

Maybe it's nothing, let's hope so, but then again..........

Wow, Toad, good answer. I had no idea it was an old folks message. I have faith in many of those "Old Wives Tales" Now that I know about this one I can understand my sister's predicament a little better. This is only more reason to go get it checked out - thoroughly!

I have one too! I've had it my whole life, on the right side of my neck. I can move it around a little, it isn't noticeable unless you feel around for it. Mine is less of a ball shape and more of a thick disc kind of shape. Doctors speculated removing it, but as it caused me no harm and wasn't growing, they decided to let my overgrown lymph node stay.

Unless it causes you pain or is very noticeable, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Best of luck!

ME :D

The old folks used to say those glands told of an infection some where close to the swelling. I also have one, but on the left and it gets bigger and hurts to touch, but the doc says it means nothing. My thoughts, if it means nothing why does it hurt???

oh my word i also hve that, its little but i always feel it. The doctor told me the same thing and he said its nothing to worry about but i get scared at times.
I cnt really gve u advice but i knw how u feel...we even have the same name lol.

i have one too, its a gland
