How do you know when your toes broken or Fractured?!

Question: How do you know when your toes broken or Fractured?
I Stubbed my little toe from quite a height in gymnastics and it hurts with the slightest of movements. If I try to bend all of my toes, its the only one that doesn't move unless bent with my fingers and still it hurts. Its been 4 hours and in the past, if I have stubbed my toe, the pain has gone more or less within the next half hour. Also, it has swollen but not so bad that it doesn't look anything like my other toe.

Answers:

You can't always tell. I have had 2 toes broken at the same time, they were just strapped up. Later I am sure another was broken in a vehicle accident, but the xray showed nothing. However it felt the same as the first 2. It will stay painful for weeks if it's broken. You can get it checked out but there's not a lot they can do. Bit like breaking ribs, just wait.

The only way of knowing is getting an X-ray but most of the time hospitals don't bother x-raying toes cos there's no real way of treating it. Bottom line is, it doesn't really matter if it's broken or just staved. It'll get better in time itself. Take painkillers and anti inflamiteries. Actually best to keep moving rather than resting up.

Been in similair situation.

You go to the hospital and get an x-ray, just like with any other bone. It's pointless with toes though, as all they're going to do is tape the injured toe to the one next to it and you can do that at home for free.

If it hurts for like a month, then it is probably broken or fractured. Chances are, you will never know! Doesn't matter though, they don't need to do anything for broken toes anyhow.

Tape it to the adjoining toes which will make it easier to walk. If you are going to be doing any more gymnastics, you should see a doctor first. put ice on it for the first 24 hrs then soak in warm water at bedtime.

If it was broken it would look really messed up but it could be fractured, if it continues to hurt over the next day you should consult your doctor.
