Insurance question?!

Question:

Insurance question?

I have a Blue Cross Blue Shield Card. It is a Highmark card. What is the difference in a Highmark version of it and the regular Blue Cross version. Also when I go to the doctor how do I file a claim, do I just give them my info from the card and thats it?

Answers:

Blue Cross Blue Shield is an association of independent licensees of locally operated Blue Cross Blue Shields. Highmark BCBS is the BCBS of Western PA.

When you go to the doctor they will copy the front and back of your card. The back usually has the address that the doctor's office sends the claim to. They do all the filing work. However, the front of the card may have the copay amount you are to pay such as a flat rate of $10-25 for primary care, more for specialist, and usually $100 for hospital. Or it may say something like 80/20 where you pay 20% of the amount of the bill BCBS allows the doctor to charge and BCBS pays the remaining 80%. A couple of weeks later you'll get an Explanation of Benefits from BCBS, which is not a bill but tells you how much BCBS decided to pay your doctor and how much more, if any, you have to pay . But if there is any amount left that you have to pay, you'll get a bill from your doctor's office.
