Answers:

The coughing is making me think no, you dont usually cough with tonsillitis, it would be murder!!! I'm no doctor but it could be some kind of chest infection/ flu! With tonsillitis, the tonsils are usually really swollen and have little white spots and it is incredibly painful to swallow.

A terrible sufferer of tonsilitus, eventually had to have them removed!!

Let him Gargle with a Slightly Salty water Mixture. Check if his Tonsills have a white coat over them , If they dont, Its not a sign that he doesnt have it, It just means that he needs to be seen by a doctor soon.

Keep Checking his temperature and make sure he has plenty of fluids.

Edit: If you have Child Friendly Ibubrofen use it. Just make him comfy till he is seen.

It could be or it may just be flu or something, has he got White spots at the back of his throat? If so it is tonsilitous, if not he may still have it, it is quite easy to find a list of symptoms from a google search.

If he has tonsilitis, Im pretty sure he should be in A LOT of pain. And in the back of his throat, it should be white.. and should be running a fever.
