What you want to do is look up a clock with the additional second hand that goes all the way around in one minute.
Find your mom's pulse on either her neck or wrist with your index finger and middle finger. Do not use your thumb as it has it's own pulse.
Now, you can count how many beats in 10 seconds and then times that by 6 to get her resting heart beat.
Adults should be between 60-75 beats per minute (bpm).
Ask her to see her doctor if it's higher than 80 in resting mode and not after a walk or any exertion.
Pulses, like what you feel in your wrist or neck? That is normal to be able to feel your pulse from your chest into your stomache, especially if she's thin. As long as she isn't experiencing any heart murmers (skipped heart beats), pain in her chest, or bruise pain she should be fine. If she is experiencing one of those, she needs to see her doctor asap.
