Do pennies help heal bee stings?!

Question:

Do pennies help heal bee stings?

I recently read online that if you are stung by a bee or hornet, hold a penny to the sting for 15 minutes and it will heal. Is this true, or just an urban legend?

Answers:

I've never heard that, but Mo is right about tobacco. You wet a cigarette, then gently break it open and put the wet tobacco on the sting, covering it with enough bandages to keep the tobacco from falling out for as long as possible.

I found out just how well this works when I was stung by several yellowjackets at one time. I had nothing in the house to use, so I called my grandma in agony to ask if there were any old-time remedies I could use. I don't even smoke, but the hubby does, so I was in luck. I swear it works like charm, I've had to do it more than once since the first time.
