Seizures or something else?!

Question: Seizures or something else?
Hello! I have a brief question about seizures.

My grandmother, and her sister, were both diagnosed with epilepsy (my grandmother at age 27). Recently (about a month ago), I have been experiencing a very odd sensation on the right side of my body. I cannot attribute it to any certain thing, it just happens. I will be fine one minute, then within about 2 minutes my right side goes from a sort of numbness to a very uncomfortable feeling. No pain at all. What it feels like is as if I have one, long muscle extending from the right side of my head to my toes and it's contracting. The feeling is much like what you'd feel if your leg fell asleep, not the pins and needles, but the almost "tickling" feeling in my leg. My fingers and toes pull inward, and I was told by a friend of mine who is a nurse that this is called "posturing" and is often the sign of a neurological problem. These "episodes" last about 2-3 minutes at MOST, and are so excruciatingly uncomfortable that I spend most of that brief span of time almost uncontrollably searching for a position that will make it go away. To no avail, though, I have to just let it run its course. Afterward, I feel tired..my muscles ache for days. I have a hard time concentrating because I feel so exhausted, but I also have a hard time sleeping because my head hurts so bad (pressure headaches). I was told my a PA that I need to get my calcium levels checked, as well as my thyroid. Is there any reason she wouldn't ask for an EEG to rule out epilepsy?

It does sound neurological, but your PA may be trying to rule out the more obvious and easier things first.

I'd get in to see a neurologist and describe your situation. I have partial-complex seizures, basically unaware of anything (blackout) for maybe 30 seconds where people say I may twitch a little in an arm or something. After this happens I am extremely tired. More serious situations I just remember waking up in the hospital.
