Why and I always sleepy?!

Question:

Why and I always sleepy?

I sleep well, but I am always tired. I never before wanted to take a nap during the day but now I really need one and then that’s not enough I get more sleepy and lazy. When my husband and I sit down and watch a movie any movie i always fall asleep. My eyes just close. Last time we went to the movies to watch Oceans 13 I fell asleep. I am only 20 years old. When I was little my parents told me that I would never sleep during the day, but only at night. Even in day care I was the only child not sleeping and waking the others. I don’t know what happened.

Answers:

There are several things that can cause sleepiness. Some medical, some physical, some mental. Your best bet would be to go to the doctors to negate any medical possibilities, from zinc difficiency, to mono (which isn't always transfered to you by someone else as the popular myth goes) to even lyme's disease. It could be something simple, it could something severe, it could be nothing at all, best to check and be safe than sorry. Once you've ruled out any possible medical conditions, time to check your lifestyle. Do you find yourself sitting around often? If you find yourself getting groggy during the day, take a good ten to fifteen minute break and go for a quick walk. Once your blood gets flowing a little more you're sure to wake up. Also - as weird as it sounds, the more sleep you allow yourself to get, the more tired you'll be the next day. In all actuallity, studies have shown that the human body only needs 20 minutes of sleep every 4 hours. Granted, this isn't ideal. Nor would I be happy surviving off of two hours of sleep a day. But it's just an example of what little rest the body actually needs. Basically what it boils down to sometimes is that your body gets accustomed to the amount of sleep you allow it to have. The more you give it, the more it wants. This doesn't mean that it Needs it. Though if you feel as though you need to take a nap, you shouldn't allow yourself to sleep for more than 20-30 minutes. A quick cat nap will suit you better than an hour nap. As far as your childhood goes.. truth is, you can't really compare anything now to when you were a child. Naturally your body changes over time, as do your bodies needs, your hormone levels, etc. So my guess is that there probably isn't much that's the same now as when you were a kid. Don't worry about that too much. Try to pinpoint where all this exhausted energy is coming from. Are you having any issues in your life that possibly your subconscience is thinking about constantly, issues that maybe you aren't even aware of? A lot of times mental stresses can make the body feel lethargic and tired. Make a checklist of all the different possibilities, mentally and physically and medically. Once you've ruled different possibilities out, cross them off and narrow your list down. Once you can pinpoint where it's all coming from you'll have a much easier time trying to fix it. And I'm sure worrying about it is only making it worse.
I know this answer was rather vague, but hopefully it was helpful in some way.
Best of luck to you and hopefully you're able to get yourself out of this sleepy slump!
