Common sleep aids include 5-HTP, Melatonin, Valerian, Chamomile tea and warm milk.

Well, I have ADD and I take just about 80mg of medication a day since I was in 4th grade until now (I'm 18 now), so I know what you're talking about when you say having trouble falling asleep, I used to get an average of about 3 hours of sleep a night for 5 years straight.... The only way I semi-overcame this was lying in bed, and imagining a black, motioness, soundless, room, and concentrate all my energies into thinking about this room, thinking of nothing else (which I later found out I self-coped myself into meditation). I hope this tip helps because it helped me; an anphetamine-ridden being that deperately needed sleep. This is still the only way I can fall asleep every single night.

Get comfortable and count your breaths.

OR

Get comfortable and tense, then relax your whole body, starting with your feet -- tense your toes, let them relax, then your feet, ankles, etc.

OR

get a self-hypnosis tape for stress and listen to it as you go to sleep. You may have to listen to a few sample tapes, but there are many on the market and you can often listen to a bit on Amazon.com. Find someone whose voice is comfortable to listen to, or get a book and make your own recording (I suggest Brian Weiss's tapes, or William Hewitt's book "Self-Hypnosis."

The other common insomnia-fighting techniques are -- take the TV out of your bedroom, avoid coffee, caffeinated drinks, or high-sugar foods for a couple of hours before bed, and get regular exercise (not just before bed) so your body isn't storing tension.

training in hypnotherapy.

I get a little help from a decaf tea. Very soothing and relaxing. There are some natural herbs you can get from the Health Food Store also. If there is too much noise around you when you are trying to sleep, you may consider getting a sound machine. I got mine at Target. It has several different sounds that will block out all the external noises. Good sleeping.

A nice soak in the bath, lavender under your pillow helps you to sleep, no caffeine 2 hours prior to bed time and a ritual of going to bed the same every night.

warm a cup of milk in the microwave then drink it before going to bed.
avoid coffee or any drink with caffeine.

daydream about falling asleep. that helps me.
