Sleeping all day, up all night?!

Question: Sleeping all day, up all night?
Ever since I was little, if given the chance, I sleep until 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon and go to bed at about 4:00 a.m. I hate mornings. I am not a morning person, and when forced to go to a job at 7:00 in the morning, i won't be coherent until noon. I'm not depressed....It's just that my natural circadia rhythm is to be up all night. My brother is the same way and so is my son.

I am unemployed (through no fault of my own) at the moment. And, here I am typing away, alert, happy and no where sleepy. My question? Is this healthy? How do I cope when I do get a job again and have to do the insane 6:00 a.m. mornings? I once had someone say to me who is also the same way, "When I have to get up in the mornings it's as if someone who IS a morning person is awoken at 2:00 a.m and told they must go to work now."

I am nauseous, sick in my stomach, headaches, bleery eyed and probably shouldn't be driving on the roads until noon! How do I possibly work? I am a teacher, and no, I can't work second or third shift. Any suggestions how to deal with this mess?

Answers:

Sounds like you have insomnia. I have it too. Many people think it means that you just can't fall asleep, but that in itself manifests in different ways. You try to go to sleep, but immedietly your body isn't tired it'll keep you up and even ACTIVE forever! Eventually you do end up falling asleep and then you sleep loooong long hours. 11-12 sometimes more hours a 'night'. Get sleeping pills to keep you on a regular cycle or you can do what I do and keep yourself up 48hours then only let yourself fall asleep at the time you want to go to sleep. After that amount of sleep deprivation even insomnia won't keep you awake. (most of the time) of course the cycle will keep messing up eventually and you'll have to 'reset' yourself again. So sleeping pills are much more reliable (but oh so addictive!)
