whats wrong with my jaw?!

Question: Whats wrong with my jaw?
this in on behalf of my husband-

while playing football he was elbowed hard in the jaw, as a result had to sit the rest of the game out, this was last night and came home in pain, not being able to bite on one side. went to a&e bit since they couldn't do x ray until monday (why????) there is no way of knowing exactly whats wrong.
anyway this morning the pain isn't as bad but he still cant bite down properly and says it feels uneven- very tender round the left ear.
can anyone shed some light if its anything to worry about?

oh my gawd

You also could have suffered a small fracture. Today, the trend is changing about Xrays. Most doctors feel that it is better to wait a few days until they take an xray. The reason being that some of the inflammation has gone down and injury to the area is seen much more clearly. Use Ice,not heat, 20 minutes every hour as tolerated. For pain, doctors are saying take 2 Tylenol and 1 Ibuprofen together with plenty of food. In spite of your pain try to drink as much water as possible.

if it is around the ear it could be a number of things but the mandibular fossa might be my best guess. Might be a fracture, might not. I would ice it 20 mins every hour as much as possible till you can get an xray on monday

your have whats called gigantism to the face, get a jaw reduction or a good jaw exercising routine hiccuping is a good exercise.

I used to do karate, and one day I was kicked in the jaw. I had the same problem as him, and I was told that i had dislocated it. It hurt a lot, so I recommend some ice! Good Luck

It is best if you will consult your doctor about that something in your jaw. For me, that is the best thing to do.
