Husband fell yesterday, ankle pain and stitches care?!

Question:

Husband fell yesterday, ankle pain and stitches care?

My husband fell from about 15 feet up yesterday at work, then went to the ER. He received 6 stitches on his cheekbone right under his eye. It wasn't a clean cut, so I know there will be some scarring. I'm not sure what he should do to care for it, as all he was told was to keep it dry and come back in 7 days to get them removed. There is a pretty dark scab formed, and I was wondering if he should clean it with soap and water? Can we put Neosporin on it? Do we have to wait until scab falls off to put Mederma on it?

His ankle took the brunt of the fall. He previously (12 yrs ago) had pins put in this ankle, so it worried me. They took x-rays and said they didn't see any fractures and called it an acute contusion and wrapped it and gave him crutches. He's in a lot of pain. What can I do to help? He can't even handle an ice pack on it. Could there be a more serious injury that an x-ray couldn't see? I'm just worried about it healing on its own. How long will it take?

He is 30 years old, and they told him not to put ANY weight on it, he's on work restriction. He figures he'll go to occupational health to get the stitches out and ask about his ankle then.

Answers:

you can clean the wound with some peroxide. but make sure u cover his eye. it will clean the infection pretty good. once you pour it on there take a guaze and pat the wound until its dry. then you may put neosporin on it. repeat this every day until he goes back to the doctor. make sure u keep it dry but the peroxide will not hurt it by puoring it on there. about his ankle, just stay off of it. it will eventually heal over time. all you can do is rap it up until the doctor does a full check on his ankle. but try your best not to put any pressure on it.
