What's wrong with my leg??!

Question:

What's wrong with my leg??

For the past few weeks I've been back in the gym doing serious workouts. I've noticed that there's some pain in my knees and made an appointment to see my doctor (which isn't until next week). This morning I wake up and the top of my left foot, up through half my shin is feeling numb and I can't flex my foot as far as I should normally be able to. Does this sound like something related to my knee? Or a neurological problem? Should I be worried or wait it out?

Answers:

It sounds like a neurological problem. There is probably compression on the common peroneal nerve due to the swelling in you knee area.

However, knee pain can be an unusual presentation of DVT, along with the inability to flex the foot.

Keep the appointment with your doctor. Stop the workouts until you see your doctor. If there is a large amount of swelling, redness, the leg feels warm, you are unable to step down or flex your foot without a lot of pain, or the numbness gets worse then call your doctor to get in earlier or go to the hospital/ER to get checked for a DVT.

If there is any doubt at all, call a doc.
