Sprained Ankle and foot?!

Question:

Sprained Ankle and foot?

I sprained my ankle and foot about three weeks ago, and I did go to the doctor because of how bad the pain was, and he just put me in a brace that I have been wearing now for the past three weeks, but my ankle is still swelling and very painful. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to do to help it heal? I do have Complex Regional Pain Syndrome/Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy in that leg so I do have a lot of discoloration and swelling in that leg, but what can I do to try to help my ankle. I have been takin Advil, and trying to ice it (ice does cause me pain because of how sensitive my leg is to the cold), but what else can I do...it has gotten a little better, but it still is fairly painful.

Answers:

Unfortunately with the RSD ice is actually counter-productive. I think the best things you can do is to rest off of your feet as much as possible and elevate the ankle above the level of your heart often through the day. Being on your feet for long periods of time is the worst thing you can do right now.
