Whats wrong with my shoulder?!

Question: Whats wrong with my shoulder?
Im trying to figure out whats wrong with my shoulder it gets really swollen from using it say in sports or lifting stuff. I had landed on my shoulder with my arm straight out a year or two ago and i have been putting up with pain. Recently it has began making clicking and a grinding feeling lifting my arm up from my side i can only lift it up to the height of my jaw and then i have to force it through pain to go up the rest of the way. My arm gets tingly feeling and weak after using it.

It sounds like you may have damage to your rotator cuff. It is probably tendonitis in the rotator cuff which would cause the clicking and pain in your shoulder. You need to see an orthopedist. Also after an injury it is not uncommon for osteoarthritis to set up in your injured shoulder and this will limit the range of motion in your arm and is painful. Here is a link that may help.

Try putting an ice pack on your shoulder and try to limit movements over your head as this will increase the swelling and pain.
I would go see a good Orthopedist. He may be able to inject some hydrocortisone into the area and this will relieve you symptoms and take away some of the pain and swelling. I hope this helps.

I'm an RN.

You are heading towards symptoms of Frozen Shoulder.

Please see an Orthopedic immediately.

In the meantime, never bathe in cold water.
Start exercises - free hand at once.
Stand in front of a wall.
Raise your hand slowly and lift it above your shoulder just as if you are writing on a School's Black Board.
Do not lift anything heavy
Do not pull anything heavy
Do not wash clothes for a few days

Try this 4 times daily from today onwards.
