?try covering your stitches when you have a bath or shower (special waterproof covers are available, or you use a rubber glove or plastic bag) your supposed to keep it clean and dry for the first 24 hours. And bathing is allowed after 48 hours
?try having a wash standing in a bath and using a cloth to clean yourself, avoiding your stitches
?after washing, dab your stitches dry with a clean towel, even if the wound area didn't get wet, to ensure that the area is completely dry
If your stitches get wet accidentally, simply dry the area immediately with a clean towel and make sure all the moisture around the stitches is soaked up.

If your stitches get wet and you’re concerned, call your doctor.

Don't worry about getting your stitches wet. wash up, being careful not to snag the stitches. It is best not to wash the stitched area. After your finish washing up, take a dry towel and press it on the stitched area, to soak up and moisture. Apply a little Hydrogen Peroxide on the stitched area and bandage.

The stitches won't be affected by the water. Some soap can irate the wound. Water can soften the skin which may allow the thread stitches to cut thru the skin. After 3 days, it should be sealed enough to be safe to wash like it wasn't there.

Go to CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, or any other drug store. Go to the first aid supplies. There should be something called a Tegaderm. It keeps out the dirt and germs. Allows for your skin to breathe. But most importantly, you can wear it in the shower or bath and it doesn't allow the water to come in.

Here is the Walgreen's link for the product:

Worked in Fire and EMS for past 11 years. We use them also.

Did your doctor specifically tell you not to get them wet? Water from a shower will not hurt the stitches. In fact it will help keep the area clean. I wouldn't let them get saturated but a little water won't hurt them. Just be sure to pat them dry with a clean towel after you get out of the shower.

I'm an RN

It depends where they are

When I had stitches they were on my wrist so when I went in the shower, I tied a bag around my wrist and tried to avoid getting it wet still.
