Would a chriopractor help cure tmj?!

Question:

Would a chriopractor help cure tmj?

Answers:

I've never gotten chiropractic for that but did get physical therapy (pt) for the tmj. The pt was trained in Rocobado(sp?) technique which is the name of the dr or therapist who teaches that. The pt (you must get referral for pt from family doctor, or more frequently, dentist that treats those with tmj, namely a periodontist/gum specialist though) used moist heat on my jaw, ultrasound, gentle stretching (of course wearing gloves :), and postural (posture) exercises.

If you call around some pt places, perhaps you can ask how many patients that they have treated successfully in those with tmj, what their current caseload is like related to tmj and what type of training they have had. They supposedly only get a small amount of training in school.

The dentist had me fitted for a bite/nite guard which helps and helped tremendously, and I continue to wear it at nite. My nite guard had cost about $1,000. The tinnitus (ear noises, etc) stopped from treatment as well. Surgery is a last resort and for extreme cases as one's jaw can get even worse if in the wrong hands or if it's unwarranted. Feel better soon!
