Why do people constantly repeat rhetoric about universal health care?!

Question:

Why do people constantly repeat rhetoric about universal health care?

Such as: we'll have to wait months for appointments, the government will screw it up, it will cost a fortune? Those things are already a problem with the system we have now and are only getting worse.

As a self-empolyeed person, I have probably some of the most unaffordable health insurance that less and less doctors want to accept because the reimbursal rate is so low. Each year our insurance company increase our rates, lessens benifits and control what medications we can and can't take with out paying for it out of our pocket. I can't change insurance companies because of existing conditions. They know when they have their "customers" trapped and take full advantage of it.

What will happen to all of you employees when your companies can no longer afford to insure you? You will have to find and pay for your own insurance. Look beyond yourselves and see what others in this country are having to fork over for care. It won't be pretty...

Answers:

People repeat that rhetoric about universal health care because its absolutely true. If you think those things are a problem now, just wait until healthcare is socialized. That's a guarantee and if you study the economics of socialized healthcare systems you'll see just how true it is.

In regards to our medical insurance, it's because our (U.S.) laws regarding insurance are really, really screwed up. Medical costs are so high because medical insurance companies are such huge bastards, and they have legal protection to do so (compliments of Uncle Sam).

The laws are geared towards offering cheap medical insurance to large corporations. What ends up happening is that medical insurance becomes expensive for the self-employed and eventually even for those in large corporations.

Another problem is our strong medical unions. My dad is a doctor and he readily admits what a strong union the American Medical Association and its derivatives are, such as the American Psychiatric Association. These unions basically control how many medical students are admitted every year (and thus, the supply of doctors). By artificially limiting supply, and increasing demand, they can prop up prices. American doctors are very well aware of this. I'm just surprised how few people know what a scam the U.S. medical unions are. Many countries with cheaper health care do not have such strong medical unions.
