is dilation a good thing? what causes the bronchioles of the lungs to dilate? can stress cause them to dilate?

It depends partly on the context of your question. Dilation simply means opening, being less constricted. For a person with asthma it is a good thing - they would want the bronchioles to dilate to make breathing easier.
