if the cyst is cancerous most likely yes they will have to do surgery so that the cancer doesn't spread also if the cyst is painful she will want to get rid of it and they only way to get rid of a cyst is to have surgery..the doctor will have to take a biopsy of the cyst and they can then decide to remove it or drain it..if the cyst starts to get an odor then it is infected and she will for sure need to have it removed...hate to be the bearer of bad news but tell her i wish her the best and good luck....
