Ingrown Toenail or just Infection?!

Question: Ingrown Toenail or just Infection?
On my big toe on my right foot i have been experiencing pain lately. It's in the right corner of my right big toe, the pain only comes from the corner when i put pressure on it. A couple of weeks ago i had an ingrown toenail an think i managed to get it out or atleast clip some of it out. A week ago it started to hurt more at the top corner an when i pushed against it a little bit of puss come out, i've tryed a couple of times to see if there is an ingrown toenail but i've tryed pulling my nail up a little on the corner to see if i can feel the nail going into my skin, but i can't. Is it possible for just a toe infection to cause so much pain, or do you reckon i probably just have an ingrown toenail which is infected? it's swollen at the top right corner, but not too swollen, i've been using germolene which is anti-sceptic creme to try and kill the infection and in the past few days i havn't noticed any puss coming out, but i havn't really tryed to put pressure on my toe because the pain is unbearable and stings a little, could this be just a toe infection or probably both ingrown toenail and infection, even though i can't feel the nail digging into my skin. Oh and when i push against the side of my big toe i don't feel any pain but in the corner i do.

It is strange how such a little thing can cause sooo much pain. You are best to go see a Dr or a Podiatrist. If you gently pull away the side skin from your nail and pus comes out it should relieve the pressure a bit. Whenever I feel like an ingrown nail is coming here is what I do; make sure your nail is long enough that you can make a little tear in it and pull the nail towards the corner that is ingrown and keep going so it goes past the corner and then down the nail. This shouldn't hurt, it is just the top bit and you are not pulling away from the nail bed itself, you should see that the nail brings with it the bit that is sticking in the corner of your toe (hopefully). The part of the nail that you pull needs to be enough or it could break leaving the bit you want to remove behind. If it works you should find that the thing that is causing so much pain is only a tiny bit of nail. Good luck.

Maybe you haven't completely taken out the nail. I was on the same situation once and I really though I had removed the nail yet after I've taken it to the pedicurist. She took an ingrown nail that I haven't seen.

See your gp immediately, any infection needs anti bi otics, it can spread and get worse.

either way it looks icky Dx
