Vicodin is two drugs combined in a single tablet. It is hydrocodone, a narcotic, with acetaminophen (Tylenol). Darvocet is propoxyphene, a narcotic, with acetaminophen.
As both medications include acetaminophen, any difference in the degree of pain relief would be due to the narcotic. Since pain perception is relative so too is pain relief. That being said, hydrocodone is similar in its analgesic properties to codeine. Propoxyphene is considered a less potent narcotic, perhaps the weakest on the market.
Essentially, Vicodin is "stronger" than Darvocet.
