How long does it take for a broken toe to heal?!

Question: How long does it take for a broken toe to heal?
I had an accident on a scooter first weekend of December and hit the outside of my foot against a concrete brick wall. I have a lot of pain in my little toe, I can only wear jandels because they don't touch my little toe.

It's been two months now and it's still sore. I didn't see a doctor.
Is it likely that it's broken? How long does it take to heal?

Thanks.

Answers:

You likely had a fracture, as a crushing bruise would have healed by now for the most part. Bone fractures take six weeks on average to heal. If fractured, your toe should also have healed by now. You may have suffered a fracture that displaced the bone in an abnormal direction, or had one that crushed the bone into several smaller fragments. Pain two months out is not uncommon in these scenarios. You need to see a foot specialist (podiatrist) and have x-rays taken to look at the bone to see if an abnormal fracture remains, or if you fractured the metatarsal bone at the base of the little toe. Although conventional wisdom says toe fractures are minor problems, situations like yours illustrate that they still need medical attention, as surgery may now be in your future if the bone is out of place or in many pieces.
