Knee Problems?!

Question:

Knee Problems?

I was running a hurdle race about a month and a half ago, and i misstepped while taking off and when i landed my leg bowed outwards. I finished the race but afterwords it really hurt. I iced it for the rest of the meet, except for when I had to run the 4x100. It hurts mainly on the outside of my knee where the end of that bone is. It also hurts underneath to the left [its my left knee] and deep inside. I never went to the doctor, but I took a month off. I just started doing hurdles and running again, and it still hurts. It doesn't hurt when i actually run, just afterwords. It also hurts if I bend my knee tightly. Its getting really frustrating because I want to keep running, but I dont know if I should go to a doctor, or just let it heal on it's own. Please help!!

Answers:

Some of the symptoms you describe sound like a tear in the meniscus, which is the bumper pad in between the 2 bones in the knee. The other possibility is that you strained the tendon to one of your hamstring muscles which is in the area you describe. I would recommend you go see an orthopedic doctor to have your knee examined.
