Stress fracture - cast or no cast?!

Question:

Stress fracture - cast or no cast?

If someone has a stress fracture in their wrist, should they get a cast?

I ask because my husband got one at work, and the care place that took x-rays and such sent him home with a brace. Would getting a cast help to prevent more problems down the road?

Answers:

They don't usually cast stress fractures anymore. The brace will just take pressure off the area and immobilize it so he doesn't use it. But it gives him the freedom to bathe/shower without issue. I'm sure he was told not to take it off except for a few minutes to an hour daily? That is the time needed for hygienic purposes.

Hope he feels better soon!
