shin splints, and flat footed?!

Question: Shin splints, and flat footed?
First i would like to state, that I am flat footed, and when i run i get shin splints. Do i get shin splints because i am flat footed? I get shin splints when i run, typically only in my right shin. This usually happens within 5 - 7 minutes of running, and i have to slow down and walk til they go away. Today I bought some running shoes (asics gel evolution 5). So while i was running today they seemed to help a little bit, my shin didn't hurt until about 11 minutes into running however the soles of my feet hurt REALLY bad. Should I walk around with my new asics while i work so my feet can get used to the shoes or do you have any other suggestions?

ps. i kinda self diagnosed myself with shin splints. just figured they went hand in hand. So, correct my if i'm wrong.

thanksss

Flat feet can play a part in shin splints, yes, as they will cause the muscles in your legs to overwork and do so unevenly, putting a lot of strain on the tendons and ligaments.

Off-the-shelf insoles will help a little, but for complete correction and pain relief, you may want to consider custom-made ones, as those will be able to target the problem perfectly.

I am flat footed and I run too. I used to get shin splints all the time. This would sideline me for a while. I did the same thing and bought a good set of supportive Asics. This seemed to do the trick. You need the right shoes for your feet. A good running shop can look at a pair of your old shoes and recommend a running shoe for you.

same!
