Facial twitching.?!

Question:

Facial twitching.?

Hello,

I have a facial twitch that I wish I could get to the bottom of. It involves quickly moving the one side of my mouth and neck muscle. It bothers me that I do it and I don't know the reason for it.. Is it just a bad habit? sometimes i see my daughter who is 8 do it also.

I have looked into touretts before and it don't seem thats it.. my doc in the past has said it might be due to anxiety, but I feel he is overbooked and not all there at times. Its not totally invoulentary at times; subconsiously yes i think so.. When i was younger i remember my dad kinda squinting one eye more than the other, maybee he was stoned im not sure.. but i remember squinting my one eye too, and i hope thats why my daughter does it.

SO F**** YOU!!! that was the touretts kickin in..lol j/k

Although the history you give, makes the impression of this being heridtary, try this:

- cut down on your caffeine intake
- cut down / quit smoking/ nicotene
- try to get more sleep

All of the above should help 'calm your nerves' so to say and may relieve the intensity and/or frequency of your symptoms. Also if you're someone who stresses a lot, that could be contribusting too.

Easier said than done, but relaxation will be useful!

If these measures do not help then you may be looking at something called 'Myoclonus' which may prompt your doctor to run a few tests, though most people with Myoclonus do not have a 'disease' and need no treatment.
