Does anyone know about Indigestion/Heartburn?!

Question: Does anyone know about Indigestion/Heartburn?
Saturday I drank a few glasses of Campaign and later ate a bowl of grits and fried eggs. Sunday morning I woke around 2am with my stomach hurting. (The area between the top of my ribs) Thirty minutes later the pain increased and I tried to lie down, but it seemed to be worse. When I laid on my side it seemed to intensify. I was having cold sweats which I think was from the amount of pain. I took some Pepto Bismol and chewed tums like they were candy. Nothing helped. I went online and read it said to stay away from coffee so I did. Around 7am I went ahead and drank a cup of coffee. My husband said the coffee may actually help because it's warm. I drank a cup and about an hour later I was in the bathroom throwing up. Is this normal? I've always had a slight case of heart burn when I eat certain foods. I drink Campaign every now and then and I've never gotten heart burn from it.

Any type of alcohol, champagne included, can invoke heartburn as can fried foods. Although the coffee was warm, the acidity as well as the caffeine in coffee are indigestion triggers.
Things like Pepto-Bismol, Tums and the like are designed to help neutralize the acid in the stomach~ they chase the horse once its already out of the barn. You can try taking one of the over the counter medications like pepcid, zantac or others which cut down on the production of stomach acid since you have had problems with heartburn in the past, but these medications have to be taken before the problem presents itself.

I am certain there are many things that Kat knows, but she doesn't know about Pepto-Bismol. There is absolutely NO aspirin in Pepto-Bismol. While both P-B and aspirin are in the salicylate family of drugs, they have completely different properties. I hope this clears any confusion.

Hope you can continue to enjoy an occasional glass of champagne!

A few people know that Pepto Bismal has some aspirin in it. Worse thing for heartburn. Drink plenty of water before and after you drink any alcohol. You might want to invest in an over the counter drug called Prilosec and have it on hand when this happens again. You probably could get the store brand for less. Check with the pharmacist.
