It depends on the severity of the back pain. In your case, Lower back pain is not only caused by lifting heavy objects. It can also because of an illness like urinary tract infection (UTI) Have you had a urinalysis or a urine test? I think you need to seek for another medical opinion.

Suffering for back pain for a year can be very uncomfortable specially when sleeping. There are exercise that helps in alleviating pain. Using a posture brace helps reduce lower back pain and at the same time corrects a poor posture.

Lumbar the lower back region where many thousands of mainly men suffer from this excruciating pain (lumbago). It can last various lengths of time and has been known to go on for a couple of weeks.

It can flare up with the cold, and not necessarily an injury such as yours. I believe its all down to correct lifting procedures with a squatting from the thighs and a grouching position. Instead of a straight back type of lift.

I myself have had back trouble on and off for many years. I used to have an manual job where I had to lift coils of galvanised wire onto a turning swift. And in another wire works where I handled up to two or three hundred lbs weight of copper coiled wire.

Of course as the years went by, lifting gear came to your aid. But to manhandle for an eight hour shift took it out of you.

Doctors give thousands of prescriptions a year for the lower back pain problem. They say its the muscles around this area, and being near the spine the nervous system gets affected too. Hopefully your current injury will not be an on going problem for the future.

Lower back pains are caused by pinched muscles and to get rid of the pain, and that is right now, you have to free them up and here's how to do that:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

HI,

I am a physical therapist. Not all causes of back pain are the same, thus the lenth of time for the pain to improve varies. Three things that can help reduce back pain: ice, avoid aggravating postures/positions, and perform appropriate exercises/stretches.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to predict how long your pain will last, as this will be diffrerent for each person. You should certainly discuss your progress concerns with your doctor.
