If a teacher has their blood pressure checked regularly by a school nurse, does !

Question: If a teacher has their blood pressure checked regularly by a school nurse, does confidentiality apply?
A teacher asked a school nurse to check her blood pressure on a daily basis (because it was high) until they could get in to see a doctor? Is the nurse required to keep the information confidential? The nurse told the teacher this might have to be reported to the school principal. Can a school nurse report the situation to anyone without permission from the teacher?

If the nurse does not keep this confidential she is breaking the law. Therefore, if the nurse knows what she is doing legally, she will not divulge this. Couldn't hurt to ask her if she will keep it confidential. If she asks why be honest with her. If she says no, go to a drug store with a blood pressure machine and check it yourself. If it above 160/100 let your doctor know by phone and see if you can get in earlier.

Yes the nurse should keep it confidential. She has no right to disclose information about someones health to another person.

I agree, I think that it would be a violation of Hipaa laws.
